Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Award-winning vocalist Anne Burnell celebrates the great American composer Harold Arlen. With arrangements by Count Basie Band veteran of 16 years Bob Ojeda, this CD is a standout. Among the musicians accompanying Ms. Burnell on this recording are Ojeda on trumpet, former Frank Sinatra Band trombonist Bill Porter, and Chicago's own, legendary violinist Johnny Frigo.

5 out of 5 stars Burnell Earns the Right to Sing the Blues   February 20, 2005

Harold Arlen should sound, well, a little dated, right? No? Well, in this superbly arranged tribute album to the man behind "The Man That Got Away," Burnell gives a fresh lick to these classic bluesy songs. With arrangements and the flawless piano accompaniment of husband Mark, Ms. Burnell balances the fine line between acting (thereby breathing life into the lyrics) and slurring those gorgeous melodies. With some of the best jazz arrangements around, you will understand why this should become a classic in the collection of those who love standards. Brava!

5 out of 5 stars A Winning Tribute from a First-Rate Jazz Singer   February 13, 2005

Given that 2005 is the Harold Arlen Centennial, I am sure that we are going to be hearing his music quite a bit over the next 12 months. And, I think that when we sit back and review all of the Arlen tribute CDs that we will see this year Anne Burnell's BLUES IN THE NIGHT will be at the top of the list.

Armed with first class arrangements, velvet voiced Jazz singer Anne Burnell has put together one of the finest collections of Arlen songs to come along in some time. She breathes new life into old favorites like "Over the Rainbow," "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues," and "Come Rain or Come Shine," and her interpretation makes this CD a must have for Jazz lovers as well as fans of the American popular songbook.
